Student Move-Out Junk Removal
Two move-out surges a year hit University City: the on-campus rush around mid-May commencement, and the bigger off-campus wave in late August when leases run to the 31st. Dorms, high-rises, and the Victorian twins of Powelton and Mantua empty out mattresses, couches, and mini-fridges by the truckload. Send a photo, get a flat price, split it across roommates — no PA sales tax on the service.
The move-out engine of the city
University City is where Penn's roughly 28,000 students and Drexel's roughly 24,000 live, study, and — twice a year — move out all at once. The housing runs the full range: high-rise dorms and student towers, Victorian twins carved into apartments, and the porch-front rowhouses of Powelton Village and Mantua. When the leases end, none of it leaves quietly. Rooms empty out into hallways and sidewalks stacked with the same things every year — twin mattresses, cheap couches, mini-fridges, IKEA desks, futons, and bags of everything nobody wants to drag home.
We're built for exactly that pile. Send a photo of the room or the curb, get an exact flat price before you commit, and we haul it — one item, one dorm load, or a whole shared house. It's priced by how much fills the truck, which means a five-roommate Victorian twin clears as one truck-fill split across the house rather than five separate jobs. Same-day is common off-peak; during the two big surges you'll want to book a window ahead. Mattresses get recycled, usable furniture and fridges get donated, and TVs go to e-waste — no landfill run required from you.
The two move-out surges to plan around
- Mid-May commencement (on-campus) — dorms and student towers clear out over graduation week; mattresses, mini-fridges, and dorm furniture in volume. Book ahead — the week is tight. (Confirm your building's exact 2026 move-out date.)
- Late-August lease turn (off-campus) — the bigger wave, as leases run to August 31 and the Victorian twins, high-rises, and Powelton/Mantua rows all turn over at once. This is the crush; a booked window beats a walk-up.
- Between-tenant landlord turnovers — units cleared and reset for the next lease, any time of year, flat-priced by the truckload.
Real University City move-out pricing
Flat rates, photo-quoted before anyone shows up. Single items have their own price; a whole apartment or shared house is priced by how much fills the truck and splits cleanly across roommates. Labor, the carry-out, the drive, and disposal are all in it.
| Item / Job | Price |
|---|---|
| Twin mattress | $82 |
| Queen mattress | $103 |
| Sofa / couch | $126 |
| Futon | $111 |
| Mini-fridge | $115 |
| Desk | $83 |
| Dorm / apartment clear (truck-fill 1/4) | $241 |
| Shared-house clear (truck-fill 1/2) | $431 |
| Whole-house (full truck) | $732 |
$75 minimum. Disposal included; photo-priced before the truck rolls. No PA sales tax on the service.

Does the city take a move-out pile?
Not on move-out week's terms. The city's two-item curbside bulk limit allows two large items on your regular trash day — but a move-out is a whole apartment at once, on a hard lease date, not two items rationed across weeks you no longer live there. Worse, the city requires every curbside mattress to be sealed in a plastic mattress bag, a step almost nobody does, and appliances like a mini-fridge need a separate 311 appointment scheduled days out. Miss the timing and it's a fine, a citation to the landlord, or a pile that sits on the sidewalk after you've handed back the keys.
We're the move-week answer: everything at once, on your date, inside the unit. We carry the mattresses, couches, and fridges down from the dorm floor or the twin's third story, bag the mattresses ourselves, and it's gone the same trip — one flat price you approved from a photo, split however you like across the house.
University City access, handled
- Dorm & high-rise loads — elevators, loading windows, and long hallway carries handled; we come to the unit.
- Victorian twins & Powelton rows — third-floor mattresses and porch-house furniture carried down and out, no stairs surcharge.
- Group pricing for shared houses — one truck-fill for the whole place, split across roommates instead of per person.
- Recycle + donate routing — mattresses recycled, fridges and furniture donated to Goodwill / Habitat ReStore / VVA, TVs to e-waste per PA law.
When University City calls us
It's a calendar neighborhood. The graduating senior emptying a dorm the morning after commencement. The four roommates whose Powelton lease ends August 31 and whose living room is a wall of futons and mini-fridges. The parent flying in to close out a kid's apartment and wanting it done in one visit. The landlord resetting a Drexel rental between tenants. Different callers, same week-of chaos — and the same fix: photos in, flat price back, and we haul the whole move-out away.
What University City customers say
"Four of us in a Powelton twin, lease up August 31, and a living room full of mattresses, a couch, and mini-fridges. One flat price for the whole house, split four ways — cheaper than a U-Haul. Booked ahead and they showed on time."
"Flew in to clear my daughter's Penn apartment after graduation. They took the mattress, the futon, and a fridge in one trip, bagged the mattress themselves, no sales tax. Made a stressful week easy."
"I turn over three student rentals near campus every August. Photo quote, flat price, and they clear the whole unit so I can reset for the next lease. My go-to now."
