How Much Does Junk Removal
Cost in Philadelphia?
A straight answer instead of "call for a quote." Everything is flat and photo-quoted from $75 — a single item has its own price, a basement or whole house is priced by how much of the truck it fills. Disposal, the stair carry and the drive are already in the number, and there's no PA sales tax on the service. Here's the whole price list, plus what actually moves the cost in a rowhouse city.
The short answer
Most Philadelphia jobs land somewhere between the $75 minimum and a $732 full truckload. A single sofa is $126, a queen mattress $103, a refrigerator $164. A cleared basement or a whole-house move-out prices by volume — a quarter truck $241, half $431, full $732. Every one of those numbers is quoted from a photo before anyone drives out, so there's no in-home estimate and no surprise at the door. For a market benchmark, the home-services marketplace Homeyou puts the average Philadelphia junk-removal job around $231–$242 — a useful midpoint, though your real price depends on exactly what you have, which is what the photo quote pins down.
The two ways a job is priced
1. Per item. Best when it's a few specific things — a couch, a mattress, a dead fridge. You pay the flat rate per piece from the tables below, and the cheapest way to price your job is the one you get. 2. By volume (truck-fill). Best for basement and attic cleanouts, estate clear-outs and mixed loads, priced by how much space it fills in the truck. Send a photo and the quote tells you which is cheaper up front — you never have to guess or add it up yourself.
Truck-fill pricing — cleanouts & mixed loads
The narrow-stair carry, the no-driveway front-door haul, the drive and disposal are all included. This is what a basement, an attic or a whole-house clear-out prices as.
| Volume | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Quarter truck — a room or a corner of the cellar | $241 |
| 3/8 truck | $338 |
| Half truck — a typical cleared basement | $431 |
| 5/8 truck | $513 |
| Three-quarter truck — basement plus attic | $587 |
| 7/8 truck | $661 |
| Full truck — whole-house / deep clear-out | $732 |
Bigger than one truck? A multi-truck estate or renovation job is still quoted flat from photos before we start.
What actually drives the cost in Philadelphia
- Volume and weight. How much space it fills is the main lever, and dense, heavy loads — appliances, tile, plaster, wet basement material — cost more to dump, which is why a demo load prices above a load of light furniture.
- Access, the Philly wrinkle. About 70% of the city's homes are rowhouses with a full basement, narrow interior stairs and no driveway — the clutter is below grade or up in an attic, and it all has to be carried out the front to a curbside truck. We build that carry into the flat price instead of charging a stairs fee, which is exactly where a lot of "$74 and up" quotes balloon on the day.
- Construction & demolition uplift. The city's six residential convenience centers don't accept C&D debris, so drywall, wood and fixtures go to a private transfer station with a gate fee. A renovation or demo load carries a modest uplift over a light household load for that reason — still flat, still quoted up front.
- Disposal is moderate here. Philadelphia-area tipping and transfer costs sit near the middle of the pack — well below Seattle or San Francisco — so our flat prices track close to the baseline rather than a coastal premium.
- No PA sales tax. Hauling away waste is a non-taxable service in Pennsylvania, so nothing is added on top of the quote. In a taxed state the same job would carry sales tax on the whole bill.

About the $75 minimum
The lowest a pickup books at is $75, even for one light item. That covers the truck, the insured crew, the drive to your block, the carry out of the house and the dump fee — the real cost of sending a two-person crew to a Philadelphia rowhouse doesn't drop below that whether it's a single nightstand or a chair. If you've got more than one thing, the per-item prices above usually add up to more than the minimum, and a full basement is far better value as a truck-fill. The photo quote always shows you the cheaper path.
Philadelphia junk removal cost, answered
How much does junk removal cost in Philadelphia?
Flat, photo-quoted. Single items like a sofa $126, queen mattress $103 or fridge $164; cleanouts by volume from a quarter truck $241 to a full truck $732. $75 minimum, disposal included, no PA sales tax. Homeyou pegs the local average around $231–$242.
Is there a minimum charge?
Yes, $75 — it covers the truck, crew, drive, carry-out and disposal for a small load.
Do you charge sales tax?
No. Junk hauling is a non-taxable service in Pennsylvania, so the flat quote is the total — no state or city sales tax added.
Why does a renovation load cost more?
Construction debris can't go to the city's residential convenience centers, so it goes to a private transfer station with a gate fee — a modest uplift, still quoted flat.
Any surcharge for basement stairs or no driveway?
None. The narrow-stair carry and the front-door, no-driveway haul are built into the flat price.
